Girls cricket at Moonee ValleyThe North West Cricket Association's rules allow girls to play two years out of age group - so 12 year-old girls can play Under 10s cricket, 14 year-old girls can play Under 12s cricket, and so on.
Moonee Valley was a pioneer in junior girls cricket in the North West Cricket Association, but sadly lack of support from most other local clubs meant that the girls grade was discontinued.
Moonee Valley then set the model followed by the NWCA to integrate girls into mixed teams playing in the lower grades of each age group. Our Club continues to place girls together to play.
Our successful girls program, and the support of junior parents, led us to enter women's cricket in the Victorian Women's Cricket Association from the 2007/08 season. This ensures our junior girls have a career path with their cricket. We have regularly had junior girls playing in the Under 14s, Under 12s, Under 16s and Under 10s in mixed competition.
Training has an emphasis on developing the girls’ fielding skills. We anticipate some specialist coaching clinics for the girls throughout the season run by other coaches and players, and also allow the girls to try out with the club's bowling machine.
